With the good news that some crime in Ames has gone down, it is important to remember to still be concerned about and sensitive to violence and crime.

In Friday’s Daily, an article said that motor vehicle theft and bicycle theft has gone down from 1994 to 1995.

However, the article reported, excessive alcohol abuse and assault, sexual and otherwis. Meaning that there are still problems that need to be dealt with.

While the numbers are low compared to the size of the university and Ames, people should still be aware of crime.

Iowa State is known for its relatively safe campus, but students shouldn’t ignore the fact that violence still occurs.

Students should practice the same safety measures they always have to assure a safe four years at ISU, regardless of what the statistics show.

Also, students need to be aware that while the numbers may be low, there are instances of crime that aren’t reported, yet nonetheless exist.

Congratulations to all that have contributed to making the Ames and Iowa State community a safe place to live: let’s keep it that way.
