Nearly 100,000 visitors will consume 2,000 gallons of coffee, 15,000 gallons of pop and 2 tons of grilled chicken breast during the 44th annual Farm Progress Show.

Farmers will have a chance to view the latest technology in agriculture at the show, which will take place Sept. 24-26 in Amana.

“The show is designed for farmers to give them the opportunity to see the latest ag technology,” said Frank Holdmeyer, editor of Wallaces Farmer. Farmers can see the new products advertisers have introduced in action.

To exhibit at the Farm Progress Show, sponsored by Wallaces Farmer, a business must advertise in the publication. There will be nearly 400 exhibitors at the show in Tent City.

“This is an opportunity for the readers of Wallaces Farmer and other farm progress publications to get together on a common ground,” Holdmeyer said.

“It is designed for farmers to have one-stop shopping because they can stop to compare and buy any of the things they need,” he said.

Holdmeyer expects nearly 100,000 people to attend the three-day show. He said the crowd will consist mainly of farmers because it is held during the middle of week. The show is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day with a $5 admission charge.

“We think this year’s show will be an exceptionally good year because farmers have had good prices this year, and because the harvest in most areas will be later so they have time to come to the show,” Holdmeyer said.

The Iowa State Farm Operations Club sponsored a bus for 42 students to attend the show on Tuesday, said Lisa Breja, academic adviser for the club. The Ag Business Club will also sponsor a van for students on Thursday.

ISU Extension will be represented with 21 displays including information on farming practices and health, safety, technology and community awareness.

The Family Living Program will include speakers on food, antiques and fall fashions.
