The Catt Hall sign was gone and now it’s back.
It’s disappearance had nothing to do with the recent controversy over the hall’s name, and it wasn’t stolen. Dean Elizabeth Hoffman of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences said the sign outside Catt Hall was replaced because the words “Religious Studies” were inadvertently left off the sign.
The sign, labeling the departments and offices inside Catt Hall, was taken down on Thursday and replaced Friday afternoon.
“We accidentally neglected to put ‘Religious Studies” on the sign. “It has nothing to do with Derrick Rollins’ letter,” Hoffman said.
Rollins, the president’s new diversity advisor wrote a memo to Iowa State faculty members last week detailing why he believes the name of the hall should be changed.
Catt, an ISU alumnus instrumental in getting women the right to vote, is under fire for allegedly making racist remarks while campaigning during the suffrage movement.
The concret signs in front of all ISU buildings are standard.
