Archaeology Day activities set

For those who want to learn about archaeology and get your hands dirty, Archaeology Day will give students a chance to do it for free.

Saturday, Sept. 14 at 1 p.m., the Story County Conservation Center is having an Archaeology Day at the McFarland Park north of Ames.

The presentation will begin with “Iowa Archaeology and You” by Kimberly Adams. Adams is a graduate student in the anthropology department.

“It will be a highlight of Story County archaeology,” Adams said.

Next, Mark Anderson, an archaeologist, will be demonstrating flint napping and the manufacture of stone tools.

After the presentations there will be hands-on activities. Everyone can construct clay pots and make their own clay creations.

There will be sandboxes where those who attend can search for artifacts by retrieving them the scientific way.
