Apathy is no answer
September 17, 1996
I was quite alarmed to read your summary of GSB Finance for the FY 1997 (9/4/96).
As I read through the allocations for student organizations, I noticed that the “Social-Political Action” category receives the lowest amount of funding (except for the “Capital Depreciation Account”).
The impression that I get is that “social and political” causes are not important to students on this campus.
Fortunately there are active, socially conscious groups listed in other categories of student organizations.
I take this to mean that students believe that they have no political voice.
It is time to get involved in the process! You will have no voice if you do not get motivated and get organized.
Current political debate concerns YOU.
The environment, education, crime, civil rights, foreign policy, economic opportunity, campaign reform, taxation, deficits, health care and funding for the arts affect YOU now.
But most important, apathy affects us all.
