Comedian makes Ames debut

Homecoming fans will want to grab reservations for frantic fun and laughter with comedian Tim Kaminski performing at Johnny Orr’s Comedy Court tonight and Saturday beginning at 9 p.m.

Kaminski is from Milwaukee and has been performing comedy for over 12 years in almost every state in the United States. Although he is a veteran of Iowa audiences he’ll be making his debut in Ames this weekend.

“I can’t think of a city in Iowa that I haven’t cranked in,” Kaminski said. He hopes this time will be no exception.

Cyclones might recognize Kaminski from being a regular on MTV, HBO Comedy Club and the Showtime Network.

He said he is excited to perform for the homecoming crowd and looks forward to making it part of his nutty act.

“Friday I’ll be able to talk about how you guys are going to win,” said Kaminski. “Then Saturday night I can do jokes about Missouri and how you won.”

He said over half of his act is dictated by off-the- cuff comedy — after he feels out the audience for the mood of the show. People used to just laugh at the simple clever jokes he said. Now most audiences want “dick jokes” which originated from Andrew Dice Clay material he added.

Kaminski said that his act is the best when he feels he did a great job and the audience gives him the feedback he is looking for.

“I’m really picky with myself because I’m too much of a perfectionist,” he said. “There are sometimes I think of other things that are really funny that I could have said after the show is over and I want to get back up there to say them.

“If I were to be naked at the show, people would know why they call me a stand up comic,” he added.

Call Johnny Orr’s to get reservations to see Kaminski at 233-0244. Doors open at 8 p.m. and both shows start at 9 p.m.
