Big Mac attack
July 17, 1996
What’s the big deal with a McDonald’s in the Hub?
I’ve been following the Daily and am very upset by the amount of publicity that this proposed idea has created.
While I am not a particularly big fan of McDonald’s, it is ridiculous to read all of the negative press this issue has received.
The Iowa State administration is just trying to meet the needs and desires of the student body and faculty/staff for having a more convenient location to pick up a quick bite to eat.
I doubt that there is a big conspiracy to force a Big Mac down our throats. It is just an additional choice that was not available previously.
Most universities across the country offer similar services to their students.
Why can’t we have the same thing at Iowa State? I like the idea of having a restaurant closer to my classes. It just makes sense.
Also, the continual barrage of ripping on GSB President Adam Gold is unjustified.
He was handed this issue from the previous GSB administration, which did not act or inform the student senate or student body of the proposals.
Also, the Daily was inept in its duty by not reporting the letting of the university vending contracts when they were released in the spring.
This is public information that is, and was available to the Daily and yet nothing was reported.
Had the Daily taken the initiative to provide this information a that time, perhaps this flood of misinformation and paranoia would not be occupying our time.
See you in line at McDonald’s!
