Bankhead lifts Happy Joe’s

Shawn Bankhead’s jumper in the lane in the closing seconds of Thursday night’s Center Court League game propelled Happy Joe’s past Sigler Printing & Publishing by the score of 80-78.
“We did pretty good tonight,” Bankhead said. It was Happy Joe’s second straight win after starting out 0-3. Bankhead noted that good ball control and good movement on offense have led to easy shots, and in turn, victories.
Of his game-winning hoop, Bankhead said, “I just cut to the basket and hit the easy bucket to win the game.” Bankhead’s final hoop gave him 21 points for the evening. Scott Barnes and Josh Mitchell added 20 each. Fred Brown led Sigler’s in scoring with 24, while Kevin Sams tossed in 19.
In other action, Munn’s Building Center improved to 5-0 with a 105-98 victory over HyVee/Drugtown/Save U More. Brad Johnson scored 24 for Munn’s, while Charles Zanders and Matt Woodley tallied 24 and 20 respectively. Rodney Chamble poured in 25, Troy Larson netted 22, and Donnell Bivens had 20 for Team HyVee.
Also on Thursday night, Coca-Cola/Powerade defeated George White Chevrolet in a defensive battle by the score of 66-60. Kenny Pratt hit for 20 points and Dan Berggren added 14. Klay Edwards led George White with 20 in a losing cause.
In Sunday night action, the two-man scoring punch of Fred Brown and Kevin Sams were too much for HyVee, as Sigler downed HyVee 114-106. Brown and Sams combined for 75 points on 28 of 40 shooting. Kelvin Cato slammed his way to 38 points, Rodney Chamble added 25, and Donnell Bivens hit for 19 points for HyVee.
Coca-Cola/Powerade defeated Happy Joe’s 95-82 behind Sam Powell’s 32 points. Reginald Jackson hit five 3-pointers and contributed 17 points to help hoist Coca-Cola to victory. Happy Joe’s received 25 points from Shawn Bankhead and 24 each from Scott Barnes and Keith “Lefty” Moore.
George White was forced to forfeit their game to Munn’s because they did not have enough players show up. Munn’s victory pushed their season record to 6-0.
