He’s comin’ to America!

You may be familiar with the saying, “It’s an oldie, but a goodie,” but after attending the Ruttles Roll-In, you’ll really believe that an oldie is a goodie.

On every Thursday night from May to September, Ruttles restaurant makes the saying come to life.

“It’s about the nostalgia of the olden days. It brings back memories of cruising around in cars back when cars were ‘real’ cars,” said Carl Chumos, a manager at Ruttles.

Carl explained that it is not only natural to have a ’50s drive-in place such as Ruttles hold a car show, but it also keeps up business on the week nights.

The Ruttles Roll-In has attracted cars as old as a 1927 Buick. The show also includes some Corvettes, Buick Grand Nationals and Model A Ford pick-ups, just to name a few.

“It’s a show-n-shine show. We have a D.J. outside playing music of the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s,” Carl said.

“Carl keeps the night going and keeps things exciting with trivia questions,” said Susan Harris, a regular participant of the Ruttles Roll-In.

For the last four years, Susan and Wayne Harris have been participating in the Ruttles Roll-In, which has been running at a fast speed since about the year 1987. They own a 1955 Buick and a 1966 Mustang. They’re involved in the Klassy Kruisers Car Club and the Tall Corn Car Club.

Some other car clubs that participate in the Roll-In include the Cyclone Corvettes and the Heart of Iowa Classics. Most of the car clubs are open to anyone with an interest in the oldies but goodies.

You can drive into the Ruttles Roll-In every Thursday night from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. This “show-n-shine show” is open to the public.
