Hilton, Jack Trice Field unaffected by flood
June 17, 1996
With memories of the great flood of ’93, the Iowa State Buildings and Grounds department was worried about what might happen to Hilton Coliseum.
After being informed that the flood level was expected to be comparable to that of ’93, sources at the Buildings and Grounds department said they decided to put sand bags up on the west side ramp of Hilton to prevent any damage. The two entrances to the Scheman building were also lined with sand bags.
By Monday afternoon both buildings were safe and no damage had occurred. The flooding had not left the banks of the surrounding ditches.
The conditions of the areas were being kept under observation, and close contact with the Department of Public Safety was kept to ensure knowledge of any change.
