Despite Pratt’s 31 points, Coca Cola/Powerade loses to Willoughby-less Munn’s Building Center
June 26, 1996
Despite playing without the Center Court League’s #1 draft pick, Dedric Willoughby, Munn’s Building Center improved it’s record to a perfect 4-0 by posting a 79-76 victory over Kenny Pratt’s Coca-Cola/Powerade team.
Pratt, whose team fell to 1-3, said the game would have been played more competitively had Willoughby played, but he enjoyed the game anyway. He said his team was just out to play hard and have a good time. “We’re all just having fun, right now it’s all smiles,” Pratt said.
According to Pratt, the losses at this point in the season don’t really matter.
“We’re waiting for the playoffs. You’ll see a whole different attitude when they start,” he said.
For now, Pratt and his team are getting used to playing with, and knowing each other.
He said he has made a lot of new friends and has seen some good young talent.
Pratt also said he has enjoyed competing against his Cyclone teammates.
Dedric Willoughby, Munn’s leading scorer, missed the game due to his academic schedule. David Otte led Munn’s with 24 points, while former Indian Hills Community College player and Cyclone-to-be Brad Johnson scored 15.
Pratt led Coca-Cola/Powerade with 31 points, while Reginald Jackson netted 17.
In other Tuesday night action, HyVee/Drugtown/Save U More was upset by Happy Joe’s 107-105 in the nightcap of the triple-header.
Scott Barnes scored 31 and Shawn Bankhead added 25 in recording Happy Joe’s first win of the season.
Rodney Chamble was the high-point man for HyVee with 29, followed by former Cyclone Donnell Bivens with 25, and Kelvin Cato and Rob Kain with 17 each.
“I’m happy with our first big victory,” Bankhead said. “We had to come out and get one. We just had to play hard and work as a team. We stuck in and won.”
The middle game of the night pitted George White Chevrolet against Sigler Printing & Publishing. Sigler, led by Fred Brown’s 37 points, won a classic battle in overtime by a score of 92-89.
Kevin Sims scored 16 and Jacy Holloway tossed in 8 points for the victors.
George White’s leading scorer was former ISU hoopster Saun Jackson with 20, while current Cyclone Klay Edwards scored 16.
