Services available for flood cleanup

As cleanup efforts continue throughout Ames this week, the city is providing several post-flood services to assist residents in their cleaning efforts.
The disposal of sandbags is one of the largest parts of the cleanup effort. Residents may drop off their bags at the intersection of Edison Street and Carnegie Avenue, located in east Ames, off Dayton Avenue. The sand does not need to be removed from the bags. After these bags are collected, city employees will remove the sand from them and return it to the city’s supply for reuse. The bags will be stored for future use.
An informational packet is also available. Compiled by ISU Extension Services, the packet contains information on how to clean clothing, dry walls and inspect appliances for damage. It is titled “How to Clean Up After a Flood.” Those interested in obtaining the disaster recovery packet can pick it up at the kiosk in City Hall, 515 Clark Ave., or may have it sent through the mail.
