Twister preview to be shown in Ames theaters

Daily Staff Writer

A special preview of the Warner Brothers movie Twister will be shown on May 7 at 7:45 p.m. for Ames residents who participated in the filming last summer.

Wendol Jarvis from the Iowa Film Office said Gov. Terry Branstad will be present for a small program to say a few words. Door prizes will also be handed out before the movie starts at the North Grand Mall theater.

Nearly half of the movie was filmed in Iowa last summer. The movie stars Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton.

Thousands of people applied as extras and several hundred people from four or five surrounding counties actually participated as extras in the Steven Speilberg production, Jarvis said.

Twister will officially open on May 10 in theaters across the nation, Jarvis said.
