A rose is a rose is a…

To The Editor:

I understand why many people can find the name of Catt Hall offensive and would like to have the name of the building changed. I don’t understand why the September 29th Movement and others are surprised that new bricks are being added to the Plaza of Heroines, and are asking people to request removal of their bricks.

The Plaza of Heroines is meant to provide a place for people to honor women who have made a difference in their lives, regardless of the name the building it’s in front of.

If someone felt it was worth the donation to have a brick placed, then I would hope the honoree would feel proud to have such recognition and would keep in mind the idea behind the Plaza, not the label assigned to it.

As the old saying goes, “A rose by any other name would still smell as sweet.”

I hope that if the name of Catt Hall is changed, the Plaza of Heroines will be left to honor women who have influenced people’s lives.
