Makin’ a mess

To The Editor:

Despite the cold weather, this year’s Veishea parade was a big success.

In fact, it was the best we’ve seen. The obvious effort and enthusiasm put into all the entries made us proud to be a part of Iowa State. We congratulate all who were involved.

The reason we are writing this letter is to express how the event was spoiled in the aftermath.

Before the parade, copies of the newspapers Toons and the Daily were passed out to the crowd.

We understand that this was a good opportunity to get these papers easily distributed.

However, after the parade ended and the crowd dispersed, all that was left from a great parade was just a mess of trash and many newspapers. The parade route looked like a garbage dump.

Newspapers were blowing around everywhere, getting stuck in trees and overflowing from trash cans, etc.

This is a very beautiful campus and it was very disturbing to see it in this state of disarray, especially at a time when we have many visitors and want to be able to show off Iowa State.

Therefore, we ask of the newspapers to, in the future, either not be distributed to the crowd or for staff members to be prepared to be a part in the picking up and recycling of the mess that is left behind.

We thank you for your future efforts in this matter.
