Des Moines Playhouse pays tribute to Gene Kelly with Singin’ in the Rain

April showers bring May flowers, especially at the Des Moines Playhouse. Singin’ in the Rain is being performed tonight through May 11 at the theater.
Singin’ in the Rain is based on the MGM musical. This production will pay tribute to the late movie star, Gene Kelly.
The show is a lighthearted play consisting of music and dance performances. Songs that will be performed include, “Make ‘Em Laugh,” “You Are My Lucky Star,” “Good Morning” and the title song “Singin’ In The Rain.”
“I promise it will rain on the stage during Singin’ In The Rain,” said Brett Lassiter, guest producer of the show.
Singin’ In The Rain is a spoof of Hollywood in the 1920s. In the film, silent film stars Don Lockwood and Lina Lamont struggle to adapt to the newest form of movies, talkies.
Performance dates are April 19, 20, 24 and 27 and May 1, 4, 8 and 11. The show will begin at 8 p.m. There will be a performance at 7:30 p.m. on April 21. Matinees are April 28 and May 5 and 12 at 2 p.m.
Ticket prices for Fridays and Saturdays are $19. Performances on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays are $16. Students with current ID, are admitted for half-price for every performance.
