A safe and fun Veishea for all

Veishea is coming and along with it are parties galore. Veishea is a celebration for all students, faculty and staff.
Unfortunately, there always needs to be a reminder to all Veishea attendees to celebrate their weekend safely.
Students and other Veishea-revelers who wish to drink themselves into an oblivion should take a moment to consider the effects alcohol has and what people might be tempted to do when they are surrounded by thousands of people.
Even for those who are not drinking, everyone should try to be considerate of others, to take their good time into consideration. This event is supposed to be a fun time for all; the operative words being fun and all. Fun for all. A pretty simple concept.
It would be wise for Veishea-goers to remember how close the university was to canceling Veishea forever four years ago in the wake of the infamous riots of 1992. Students should help those students who weren’t here to recall the tear gas and the brawls all over Welch Avenue.
While everyone is having a good time, remember who you are representing and how important Veishea is to most Iowa State students and, most importantly, party safely.
Veishea executives, university administrators and various other groups and individuals make the same plea every year: for the Veishea celebration to be festive, but not out of control.
With all the preparations and planning the Iowa State and Ames communities have gone through for this year’s celebration, the chances of things getting out of hand are probably small. But just be on the safe side….
Enjoy yourself this weekend. And let everyone else enjoy their Veishea as well.
