Grease! will slip into the Civic Center
April 9, 1996
Just as fast as greased lightnin’, Grease! will slide into the Civic Center of Greater Des Moines this summer.
There’s hardly a college student around who isn’t familiar with the gang from Rydell High, and all of them will grace the stage in our state’s capital from June 25 to 30.
The musical takes place back when boys wore leather jackets and duck-tails, while girls tooled around in bobby socks and beehives.
The story follows Danny, the leader of the “Burger Palace Boys” greaser gang, and the sweet ‘n’ innocent Sandy Dumbrowski, who transfers to Rydell and joins the gum-poppin’ Pink Ladies.
This is the official Broadway production of Grease!, which was written by Warren Casey and Jim Jacobs and is produced by the Tony Award-winning team of Barry and Fran Weissler. The show includes classic tunes: “Born to Hand Jive,” “Beauty School Dropout” and “It’s Raining on Prom Night.”
Tickets range in price from $15 to $42 and go on sale Saturday, April 20 at 10 a.m. A 10 percent discount is available for certain performances to groups of 20 or more.
Tickets may be purchased at the Civic Center Box Office, all Ticketmaster outlets or charge by phone at 233-1888 (Ames) or 243-1888 (Des Moines). For more information, please call the 24-hour Civic Center information line at 243-1120.
