Art! It’s everywhere, and the Iowa State campus is no exception. As the end of the semester draws near, the FOCUS exhibit opens for everyone’s cultural enjoyment.

FOCUS is a unique art project produced by ISU students and may not be used toward credit in any class or studio. Diversity prevails as the FOCUS exhibits range from religious art exhibits to political art this year.

“It’s a very good representation of the artwork produced on the ISU campus,” said Andy Kitzmann, program advisor (arts) interim. “The purpose is to gear it toward the whole university.”

The FOCUS juried exhibit in the Gallery of the Memorial Union is open through May 1. FOCUS is funded by the Government of the Student Body and is open to any ISU student from any college at the university.

The juror for this year’s FOCUS Call For Entries is Tilly Woodward, an artist working in Pella. Woodward is best known in Iowa for her Portraits of Dubuque traveling art exhibit and most recently, her large portraits of Iowa residents with the AIDS virus.

She was highlighted in the June 1995 issue of Art in America in an article titled, “Art in the Heartland.” Woodward chose 43 award winners from the juried exhibit out of 140 entries.

In addition to the juried exhibit, FOCUS will also host a separate exhibit for students who have completed FOCUS funded projects within the last year. To receive a FOCUS grant, students must write a proposal and present the proposal to the FOCUS committee.

Students must have a budget and an adviser to qualify. The projects range from body casting to a variety of non-traditional media. The exhibit will also run for the duration of the juried exhibit in the Pioneer Room of the Memorial Union.
