Easter holiday fun for the entire family at Living History Farms

Hippidy, hoppidy, Easter is on its way. Living History Farms is helping people of all ages to get into the Easter spirit by hosting a Victorian Easter Party tomorrow.

“We are aiming this towards kids, students and families. Everybody is invited to join in the Easter festivities,” said Steve Davis, publicity coordinator for Living History Farms.

Activities will include games, horse-drawn wagon rides and Easter egg hunts. There will also be live bunnies adding to the spirit. The Easter Bunny will also be making an appearance. Za-Ga-Zig Shrine clowns will be performing. “It should be a lot of fun for children of all ages,” Davis said.

Des Moines Radio station 102.5 KSTZ will be broadcasting live. The first 102 people in attendance will get their picture taken with the Easter Bunny.

The Iowa Egg Council will hand out recipes and egg samples.

Victorian games will begin at 9 a.m. Games include egg rolling contests and pancake races. “All of these games are to teach the children about history,” Davis said. “These games were played by the children and families in the Victorian era.”

For the second year, children between the ages of three and four are invited to take a “Barnyard Walk.”

The short walk will include several stops, with each stop featuring a variety of young animals. The animals will include horses and ponies, pigs and piglets and calves.

“This is a lot of fun. The kids love being able to see the animals up close,” Davis said.

Children between the ages of five and 10 are encouraged to bring their favorite Easter baskets and search for novelty toys. The hunts will be every 15 minutes between 10 and 11 a.m.

“Our goal was to make it easier for parents to get their children to every activity. This is why we start the hunt every 15 minutes. Each activity is in a different part of the farm,” Davis said.

All activities will end at noon. Activities will take place rain or shine.

Admission for the Victorian Easter Party is $2 for children age three to 10 and $1 for adults and children 11 and older.
