Veishea 1996 brings “Meskwaki on Stage” to Iowa State University.

The Saturday morning show, part of the Iowa Sesquicentennial Celebration, will be put on by the Meskwaki Production Company which follows this year’s Veishea theme, “Continuing our Heritage.”

“We looked into bringing things to Veishea that are part of Iowa’s history,” said Heather Richards, public relations co-chair for Veishea. “The Meskwaki Production Company is from Tama, and we drew them in because they are part of Iowa’s heritage.”

The Meskwaki Tribe will share their roots through their dances in a theatrical style. Meskwaki tribal dances and colorful costumes will make the presentation exciting to see. Stage lighting and background fog will add to the visual effects of this unique performance.

The show will describe the past of the Meskwaki tribe and will inform the audience of the present and future existence of the tribe.

Mr. Wayne Pushetonequa and Mr. Larry Yazzie are the leaders of the company and are known for their spectacular performing abilities.

“This should be a very interesting show,” Richards said. “I am excited to see their costumes and dances.”

Showtime for “Meskwaki on Stage” is 10:30 a.m. Head to central campus, and let this tribe capture your attention and teach you about our state’s heritage.
