The Iowa State softball team split a doubleheader at Drake on Wednesday.

Cyclone pitcher Courtney Dully pitched the entire game, including one extra frame, shutting out the Bulldogs 2-0.

Dully recorded 13 strikeouts and improved her record to 6-4.

Iowa State softball head coach Debbie Kuhn praised Dully’s performance.

“She did a great job for us,” Kuhn said. “She got some strikeouts and some ground balls in some critical situations.”

The ISU offense was led by Debbie Nease who singled, doubled, scored a run and drove in another.

“She’s really swinging the bat well right now,” Kuhn said. “She’s really attacking good pitches.”

Kally Hogan and Missy Danilson both doubled while Wendy Walls singled and scored a run.

The score was reversed in game two with the Bulldogs coming out on top by the same 2-0 margin. Angie Balakshin went 2 for 3 in the lead-off spot.

“She’s really relaxed up there and yet is aggressive at the same time,” Kuhn said.

Kally Hogan went 1 for 3 and Brenna Miller, normally behind the plate for the Cyclones, went 1 for 1 in a pinch-hitting role. Freshman Erin Woods caught game two for Iowa State.

“She called a good game,” Kuhn said. “She’s Brenna’s backup, and we want to go get her some innings.”

The Cyclones host Texas A&M this weekend. Saturday’s doubleheader begins at 1 pm, and Sunday’s single contest starts at noon.
