Changes continue for Cyclone basketball

Things change.

But for the Iowa State basketball team, things change — a lot.

Not a month has gone by since the conclusion of the season with a second round loss to the Utah Utes in the NCAA Tournament and the shake ups surrounding the Cyclones continue to mount.

First, assistant coach James Green exits Ames to become the head coach at Southern Mississippi.

Next, fellow Tim Floyd aide Terry Reed follows Green to become one of his assistants.

Then on Wednesday the squad was rocked with two more moves.

On the same day that ISUacquired blue chip high school prospect Stevie Johnson, Joe Modderman, a major component from last season’s Big Eight Tournament champions, decided to head home in search of more playing time.

Last season Johnson, the state of Mississippi’s No. 2 all-time scorer, averaged a triple-double with 27.1 points, 12.2 rebounds and 10 assists-per-game.

The 6-5 Johnson was also courted by the likes of Indiana, Memphis and Mississippi State, but stuck with his initial choice of Iowa State.

Modderman decided that he was in need of a change of scenery when he made the choice to transfer to Division II school Grand Valley State near his hometown of Allendale, Mich.
