Ingersoll takes trip down music’s memory lane with The Inkspots
April 25, 1996
The bygone era of songs like “My Prayer” and “I Don’t Want To Set The World On Fire” might make you want to break out the old record player in the attic, brush off the dust and play these favorites.
Well, you don’t have to go through the trouble of that chore: just stroll down memory lane at the Ingersoll Dinner Theatre this weekend with The Inkspots.
The Inkspots was one of the most popular vocal groups of the late 1930s and early 1940s. It formed its popular quartet from the Age of Innocence in 1934. It had a unique vocal style that paved the way for other doo-wop groups such as The Platters and The Marcels in the 1950s.
“It’s a real trip down nostalgia lane,” said Charles Carnes, producer of the show, in a press release.
The tight harmonies, “talking” choruses and high falsettos are the group’s trademark. Theaters, nightclubs and radios were places The Inkspots toured; the group also made several film appearances. It performed for servicemen both at home and in Europe during World War II.
The performances will be tonight and tomorrow night with the doors opening at 6 p.m. A four-entree buffet dinner will be served until 7:30 p.m. The show will start at 8 p.m.
Dinner and show tickets are $25 for adults on Friday and $29.50 for tickets on Saturday. Show-only tickets are available for both performances for $17.50.
