Cheaper golf rates
April 8, 1996
According to a Daily article published last Monday, Veenker golf course has discontinued its student rate for green fees.
The reason given was that more revenue is needed to maintain the course.
The article goes on to say that Veenker receives no funding from the state or the university, and so it must depend solely on green fees for income. Veenker golf course should show us their books to justify the increase in student fees.
If the situation is so dire, they should increase the fees for non-students just like they increased the rates for students. And if they still can’t make ends meet, the university should sell the course, just like it sold WOI-TV.
The income could be used to repair the tennis courts that were recently closed due to unsafe playing conditions.
It is convenient that the increase in fees was not widely publicized until after GSB elections, but I hope that the new GSB administration will wield their awesome might in this situation and fight for cheap golf rates for students at Veenker.
