Computers to track ticket sales

The ISU Athletic Department will be implementing a new computer system that will make it easier to track ticket sales at Hilton Coliseum and Cyclone Stadium next year.

The new system will allow the athletic department to make the transition from using charts to using a graphical representation of Hilton Coliseum and Cyclone Stadium, said Jason Popillion, systems analyst for the athletic department.

The new system will allow the athletic department to track ticket sales and information about ticket holders.

It will also have color-coded sections for both seating arenas that will show handicapped, student and other ticket holder sections, he said. Information about a seat can be found by clicking on the section. Vacant seats will be easier to spot because they are color-coded, he said.

Information about particular ticket holders including the name, address, and the number of tickets held will be available by clicking on individual seats, Popillion said.

The computer graphic system will work as “an enhancement tool” that will make the way “we handle ticket sales and the way we handle consumers and purchasers easier,” said Joan Bowles, assistant director of development.

“When we first started, we weren’t anticipating [designing] anything graphical,” Popillion said. “They had an old system with no technology, and we needed to take them from the bottom to the top level,” he said.

Popillion is currently working on two more aspects of this system. One is a map of the United States that will allow the athletic ticket department to locate any city in the United States and find out how many Cyclone Club donors there are and to find more information about them, Popillion said.

The other aspect will allow the athletic ticket department to “customize reports based on data from the mainframe computer,” he said.

“It’s going to be a new experience. It’s going to be easier and it’s going to make the job easier and more efficient,” said Pam Fultz, athletic ticket manager.
