Recognition due

To The Editor:

I am writing on the behalf of the equestrian team here at ISU. I know most people on campus do not even know that there is a riding team here and I am trying to change that.

Trouble is, I am not getting much help from people outside the club.

I contacted the Daily previously to inquire about having a story done on the team as well as having year-end point totals and awards printed in the paper and never even got a response back.

I know we are not a very large club and do not draw the attention to the school like the basketball or football team does, but I think that we also have the right to be known around the campus for our activities and achievements.

We are funded by GSB so I think students should know about the clubs they are paying for.

The equestrian team is part of the equestrian club, which is a point that I wish to make. The club is for anyone who has an interest in horses. You don’t have to know how to ride at all. We just like to get together and plan fun horse-related activities. The team is for those who wish to compete against other colleges. You still don’t have to know how to ride; we have lessons available for anyone who wishes to learn.

Point being, we are putting forth a lot of time, effort, and money to represent ISU at these competitions and are not getting any recognition for it.

I think it is time to change the way we put emphasis on the larger sports and give some credit to the small ones who are there, giving it their all, but are not recognized at all.
