Cyclones win eight of 10 matches at North Dakota State

Iowa State wrestling built on its strong start with a road win over the North Dakota State Bison in its first Big 12 dual of the season.

The Cyclones won 29-7, winning eight of 10 matches.

The dual kicked off with a 17-8 major decision from Iowa State’s 157-pounder Chase Straw. The Bison’s Andrew Fogarty answered with a major decision of his own to tie it at 4.

Marcus Coleman and Sam Colbray added a pair of decisions for the Cyclones, and Willie Miklus tacked on a pin before intermission to push the lead to 16-4.

After intermission, Iowa State heavyweight Gannon Gremmel added a 7-3 decision. At 125-pounds, North Dakota State snapped Iowa State’s run with a 4-2 win in sudden victory over Alex Mackall.

Up 19-7, 133-pounder Austin Gomez put Iowa State back in the win column with an 8-6 win in sudden victory.

At 141, Ryan Leisure got the call for Iowa State and picked up an 8-7 decision over Sawyer Degen (brother of Jarrett Degen).

To close the dual, Jarrett Degen picked up a 16-5 major decision.
