Search for new residence director is under way
April 18, 1996
The search for a new director of residence has been narrowed down to five candidates who will visit the Iowa State campus in late April and early May.
One of the candidates will replace Charles Frederiksen after he retires in June after almost 40 years of service to Iowa State.
Kathleen MacKay, the Dean of Students, said the university hopes to have a decision made by mid-May.
The candidates to replace Frederiksen are James Burkhalter, director of housing and dining services, Texas Tech University, Lubbock; Alice Gustafson, assistant director of residence, University of Wisconsin, Madison; Robert Hopkins, director of housing services, University of Pittsburgh; John Schuh, associate vice president for student affairs, Wichita State University, Wichita, Kan.; and Randy Alexander, director of university housing, University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point.
The director of residence “basically oversees the entire residential operation at the university,” MacKay said.
The position is a “very complex job,” she said. The director of residence is in charge of “many people, a large budget and a number of facilities, including the residence halls and university apartments.”
Open forums will be held with each candidate’s visit, with each forum beginning at 4 p.m.
