Students will have a safe non-alcoholic activity option again this year for Veishea at the Lied Athletic/Recreation Facility with “Rock Da Rec” from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m., April 19.

“We have lots of new events planned for this year and we hope to make it the best Veishea ever,” said Nate Gerber, Veishea entertainment co-chair.

Among the activities scheduled that night is a Las Vegas atmosphere with a casino consisting of 20 blackjack tables, two craps tables, a roulette table and a “Chuck-A-Luck.”

Free Casino Bucks to be used that night at the tables will be given at the door. Raffle tickets to win prizes will be available all night and can be purchased with the Casino Bucks. The Prize Raffle, which begins at 1 a.m., includes prizes donated by Ames area businesses.

Besides offering a great time, Veishea officials said Rock Da Rec should be a huge success.

“We had close to 2,000 people at ‘Rock Da Rec’ last year and plan to have more this year,” Gerber said. The event is being held to encourage non-alcoholic participation in Veishea and to give students a place to party in an indoor, safe location.
