Six Iowa State gymnasts have been named to the Phillips 66 Academic All-Big Eight Team announced last week.

First team selections include juniors Kim and Katie Mazza, and sophomore Libby Bell. Both Mazzas are majoring in finance; Kim with a 3.76 GPA, and Katie with a GPA of 3.71. Bell holds a 3.34 GPA in social work.

Second team selections include Tawnya Cary, Karen Mazza and Amy Wall.

Cary, a sophomore majoring in biology, has a 3.28 GPA. Mazza holds a 3.63 GPA in psychology. Wall, a sophomore majoring in exercise and sport science, has a GPA of 3.54.

The Mazzas are appearing on the team for the third consecutive year. This marks the second appearance for both Bell and Cary. Wall is a first time selection.

To be eligible for the team, a student-athlete must be a regular competitor, and have posted a minimum 3.0 GPA either cumulative or from the previous academic year.

A total of 24 student-athletes were named to the Academic Honor Roll.

Nebraska, last year’s academic national champions, led the way with five first team selections.

Special recognition goes to Huskers’ Joy Taylor and Kim DeHaan, and Oklahoma’s Micheele Antinoro for boasting perfect 4.00 GPAs. Taylor is a four-time member of the first team.
