Men’s swim team not down on finish

Over the weekend, the Iowa State swim team finished 36th out of 53 teams in the NCAA competition in Austin, Texas.

Jay Schindler was the bright spot for ISU during the weekend, as he finished 12th in the 100-yard breast stroke with a time of 55.10 seconds. The time marked Schindler’s personal best.

“We’re really pleased with his finish,” Head Coach Trip Hindrickson said. Schindler was the only point getter for ISU.

The ISU 200-yard medley relay team was disqualified on a questionable false start. The relay team had finished 13th before they were disqualified. Hindrickson was disappointed with the ruling.

The Big 12 Conference, in which ISU will be competing next season, was represented well, with Texas winning the championship.

“We will definitely have our work cut out for us next year,” Hindrickson said.

Although the Cyclones finished 36th, Hindrickson was pleased with the overall performance of the team.

“It was a good weekend,” Hindrickson said.

With Daniel Larson the only senior on the team who competed in the NCAA competition, the team looks good for next year.

“We’re very optimistic about next year’s team,” Hindrickson said. “We have a lot of returning people and we have some strong recruits coming in.”
