Not another Vietnam

To the Editor:

I am writing this letter in response to several editorials printed in the past few days.

Everyone has a complaint about the president, everyone has a reason why he is doing a bad job. I fully support President Clinton’s decision to activate troops in Bosnia.

We, as Americans, elected Bill Clinton to be our president. He is doing the best job he can. With elections coming up, it would be easy for the president to take the easy road out and protect his image.

Instead, he is taking the right road, whether it is popular or not. I am sick and tired of opening the paper everyday and finding some ISU student complaining about what the president is doing. Most people writing these editorials don’t seem to be grasping the idea of what is really going on.

This is NOT another Vietnam. This is not about communism, and it’s not about winning a war. We are going over to Bosnia for PEACE, not WAR!

I have just as much reason to be mad about the president’s decision, if not more, because it has become a personal issue. My father’s troop was told to mobilize for activation on Tuesday, December 5. Yes, I’m scared. Yes, it’s terrifying. But it’s terrifying for all of the innocent citizens of Bosnia, too.

Although we have been assured of the safety of our troops, these men and women are endangering themselves. This is the time when we need to support our troops and our country instead of constantly criticizing.

I do not consider myself a Democrat or a Republican, but I do consider myself a humanitarian. There are innocent people dying in Bosnia, and we can help.
