Ozzy comes out of retirement

Remember when Ozzy Osbourne said “No More Tours?” Well, he lied. The tattooed Englishman is coming to Ames, and he’s bringing his “Retirement Sucks” tour along with him.

Tickets for the Feb. 13 show went on sale last night for $21. The show will start at 7:30 p.m. with special guest Korn and The Deftones.

With the release of Osbourne’s latest CD, Ozzmosis, his first since 1993, Osbourne has a new attitude about his music.

“Since 1968 I’d been recording and touring nearly non-stop. I was beginning to feel like a mouse on wheels — trapped,” he said in a press release. “So, I took three years off, bought a new house, spent time with my kids.

“But I began to feel antsy and I had to get back.”

On Ozzmosis, Osbourne worked with the likes of Steve Vai, Mark Hudson, Jim Vallance and Taylor Rhodes, which Osbourne feels opened doors to explore new avenues.

“I wanted to break out of the Ozzy formula,” Osbourne said. “For a long time, I’d been feeling inner frustrations, musically.”

Helping Osbourne work out his frustrations on the road will be Zakk Wilde on guitar, who’s been working with Osbourne since 1988, Dean Castronovo on drums and legendary Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler.

“Ultimately, the only thing I’ve ever done right in my life is make music,” Osbourne admitted. “I don’t know anything else.”

Tickets are available at the Iowa State Center Box Office, any other Ticketmaster location or charge by phone at 233-1888.

All seats are reserved. Catch Osbourne on his “Retirement Sucks” Tour before he decides it doesn’t.
