The Lettermen celebrate the holidays from A to Z

The trio of letter sweater clad crooners, better known as The Lettermen are returning to the Des Moines Civic Center on Dec. 5 for a special Christmas concert.

The show, promoted by oldies stations KIOA and KRNT, will be filled with classic holiday songs as well as hits from the Lettermen’s fifty albums. Some of the groups best known hits include: “The Way You Look Tonight,” “Put Your Head on My Shoulder,” and “When I Fall in Love.”

Dic Youngs, disc jockey to KIOA said of the concert, “This is one of those shows you should bring your honey to.” Youngs promises everyone will “leave feeling great and ready for Christmas.”

The Lincoln High School choir will contribute to the group as back up. Last year, the Valley High choir performed with the Lettermen.

As a special offer for the holiday season, regularly priced tickets at $19.50 will be available for a “buy one, get one free” offer starting today at 10 a.m. Youngs said empty seats on Tuesday will “sicken him.”

There are plenty of good seats available and Youngs encourages everyone to attend, those who don’t will be left in the cold.

“There’s going to be a hell of a lot of people in Des Moines who are going to miss a great show,” Youngs said.

Brenda Mickle, publicity and public relations director of the Des Moines Civic Center said concert goers are encouraged to bring cameras to the concert and meet the Lettermen after the show for autographs. Mickle said, “It is highly unusual” for a group to allow cameras and take the time to meet fans after the show.

Tickets to the Lettermen may be purchased at the Civic Center Box Office or at Ticketmaster 233-1888 in Ames, 243-1888 in Des Moines or at any Ticketmaster location.
