18 percent of ISU women claim sexual harassmen
November 13, 1995
About 18 percent of female Iowa State students believe they have been sexually harassed, a November 1993 survey indicates.
The survey, released Friday, was conducted by the university’s Steering Committee on Diversity. It was funded by the Office of the President and the Office of the Provost.
The survey did not define harassment for respondents. The university’s definition of harassment may include: “… unwelcome sexual advances and sexually oriented joking, verbal abuse or pictures that create a hostile environment.”
Only 2 percent of male students reported being sexually harassed. Both male and female respondents who said they had been sexually harassed indicated it was most often done by other students.
Watch for stories this week in the Daily further detailing the results of the survey.
