Redman brings Spirit of the Moment to Stephens

Joshua Redman has taken the jazz community by storm and has taken that energy on tour with a stop in Ames tonight at C.Y. Stephens.

Releasing his debut self-titled CD and his follow-up, Wish, in 1993, Redman has garnered more popular attention and critical acclaim than any jazz musician of the past decade. With his third release, Mood Swing, Redman proves his talent as a saxophonist, band leader and composer. “I want to explore music’s gamut, run its expressive range, go wherever my band goes, however we feel,” Redman said in a press release.

Spirit of the Moment, a live album recorded live in New York City’s legendary Village Vangaurd, explores Redman’s “raw” soulful jazz. “This is an important album for me,” Redman said, “because it captures, for the first time, the live sound of my touring band — and the freedom and the immediacy that is only possible in alive setting with a real, live audience.”

Check out “the live feel” of Redman tonight at C.Y. Stephens. Tickets are $11, $16, $21 and ISU students can get ’em for $5.50, $8 and $11 at all Ticketmaster locations.
