Sin is everywhere

To the Editor:

Since the story of Adam and Eve, humankind has struggled with sin. In the bible there are several expressions of what sin is. In James 4:17 it says “Therefore, to one who knows the right thing to do, and does not do it, to him it is sin,” and in 1 John 3:4 “Everyone who practices sin also practices lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness” the lawlessness mentioned is not referring to the law of today but of the law found in the old testament like The Ten Commandments. From these passages we know that sin is doing what you know is not doing what is right, but also breaking God’s commands which are available to us.

Being inactive in one’s faith is also sin. If I see someone in need and I don’t help them then that is my sin as well. James 2:14-26 helps show this. I personally have committed great iniquity in my past and still struggle today, yet I will not try to make an excuse for it.

Have you growing up ever disobeyed your parents? (Eph. 6:1-3.) Or gotten drunk? Eph. 5:18-19. Is it possible that you have sworn at someone; calling names? (Matt. 5:22.) How about a lustful thought? (Matt. 5:27-28.) Even homosexual acts are sin to God. Sin is among us, so why do we deny it? There is hope. Do not be afraid for God has come in order to test you and in order that the fear of Him may remain with you, so that you may not sin.

Just confess your sin to God and he will forgive you. (Psalm 32:1-5, Eph. 2:1-10) I urge you to pick up your free gift of salvation today and love God with all of your existence. Being a Christian isn’t a special ability, and it doesn’t make things truly easier, but I know that every time I fail my life shows God’s grace and forgiveness.

In “End Bible “debate” ” the author suggests that this is only of ethics, but is it not an issue of sin as well? A sin is a sin and is also (surprise) a sin. It has nothing to do with rights. Where is the verse that says “deny the sinner all rights”?

Jesus came and gave his human life for the sinner. I am not of nor “duped by the dominant group.” I’m not wealthy, attractive or even athletic.

To share a secret with you, I am nothing without Jesus.
