Daily pub board chair steps down
November 30, 1995
Iowa State Daily Publications Board Chairwoman Robyn Rose resigned at Wednesday’s meeting.
Rose, a graduate student in entomology who is preparing to write her thesis, cited an emotional roller coaster as the principle reason why she is stepping down.
“I cannot put the emotional distress into it anymore,” she said.
The Daily is currently being sued by Partnership Press, Inc., the parent corporation of the Ames Tribune, for alleged violations of Iowa open meetings and open records laws. Daily officials have also been involved in an ongoing advertising battle with the Tribune through publications aimed at the ISU faculty and staff. Both papers publish a weekly supplement called University Times.
Rose said a lack of communication between the board and the Daily’s editorial staff also contributed to her decision.
John Hobson, a sophomore majoring in business, was elected the board’s new chairman.
“I’m very excited for the opportunities,” Hobson said. “We have a good group of people and I think we’ll come together through this.”
