A little help from our friend

Paul McCartney did more last week than promote the recently-released Beatles recordings. And fortunately, his efforts directly benefit ISU students.

The former Beatle and his wife sponsored $1,000 scholarships that were awarded to four ISU students. At McCartney’s 1990 concert in Ames, twenty-five cents from each ticket was donated to the scholarship fund.

Besides helping students, the scholarships are intended to help the environment, since the McCartneys wanted the $15,000 raised for the fund to help students who are studying environmental issues.

The scholarship fund encourages education, which is, unfortunately, often replaced by quick-fix solutions. McCartney’s efforts provide an excellent way to insure the best possible solution — a future of awareness and education in environmental issues.
