Jumped to conclusions
November 13, 1995
To the Editor:
This letter is in response to the editorial board’s “Listen to this, Big Brother” opinion on the FBI’s proposed plan to “expand” its wire tapping system.
The Daily has once again jumped to conclusions based on an incomplete knowledge of the facts.
The fact is that the bill is not designed to expand the number phone taps that the bureau can handle. With the rapidly advancing technology in the communications field, it is becoming a reality that some of the nations phone lines are becoming inaccessible to the government. This bill is needed to allow the government to keep up with this increase in technology.
The implementation of this law is in the best interest of those citizens who wish to keep the nation’s corporations and sophisticated crime networks from becoming “above the law” simply due to their massive resources and advanced communication systems.
