Have you ever wondered who wrote the song you’ve got in your head? Here’s your chance to be entertained by one of those singer-songwriters. You may have heard of him — Greg Brown. This evening he will be performing at the Ingersoll Dinner Theater in Des Moines.

Brown is a well-known phenomenon from Iowa. As a songwriter he has been making waves outside of his impressive following in his home state. Performers such as Willie Nelson and Carlos Santana have scored hits with songs that Brown wrote.

In 1983, Brown began a two-year stint on public radio’s “A Prairie Home Companion.” He also generated quite a bit of excitement with his performance at the 1985 Newport Folk Festival.

Brown specializes in music that looks at simple things in life, from goodnight kisses to his grandmother’s fruit cellar.

“He has this great ability to spark memories,” said producer Charles Carnes. “One minute you are sitting there listening to him sing, [and] the next minute you’re actually remembering. It’s wonderful.”

“This guy is a seasoned performer,” Carnes continued. “He just has this ability to keep you nodding, whether he is looking back at youth or talking about a life where most days seem like Tuesdays.”

“If you like to step out of the mainstream sound every now and then, Brown definitely has the sound for you,” Carnes added.

During his long career, Brown has released eight albums, been featured in Rolling Stone magazine and won many awards.

The Ingersoll Dinner Theatre is located at 3711 Ingersoll Ave. in Des Moines. The doors open at 7 p.m., followed by the show at 8 p.m.

Tickets to the concert are $15. No dinner will be served, but desserts and alcoholic beverages will be available. Those interested in reservations should call 274-4686.
