Goreville Manor opens Saturday

Iowa State students who enjoy haunted houses better be sure to visit Goreville Manor this weekend.

Goreville Manor, located at 203 Ash Avenue, is being presented by the men of Lambda Chi Alpha and the women of Alpha Delta Pi this Friday and Saturday from 7 p.m. until midnight. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the manor.

“This year we’re going with the castle theme … which is what I believe it originally was,” said Andy Hensen, tri-chair of the Goreville committee. The fraternity house has been transformed into a castle and surrounded by a moat.

Upon entering the castle, visitors cross a drawbridge and are led through the castle into the back yard. They then must find their way through a maze which leads back into the house.

Inside the house, visitors see five skits set in the dungeon, the laboratory, the kitchen, the dining room and finally the “crazy train” which ends the tour.

“It was cool,” said Tony Gentile, a freshman in political science who visited Goreville Manor last year.

The haunted house costs $3 at the door. Proceeds are donated to the Convalescent Home for Children in Johnston, which cares for children with special needs.

Goreville Manor is open to all members of the community. Last year over 1,100 people visited the house and $3,100 was donated to home.

“We’re hoping to donate more this year,” Hensen said. “I’d like to see people come out and help support a good cause.”
