Grab your fastest horse and don’t look over your shoulder as you ride through the woods at night because The Legend of Sleepy Hollow visits Des Moines at The Ingersoll Children’s Theatre.

A children’s classic, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow revolves around the bumbling, awkward school teacher, Ichabod Crane, the coquettish Katrina, and the brutish rival, Brom Bones.

True to the spirit of the book , the play is fast-paced and full of action, saving the best for last … the ride of the headless horseman.

“While we keep the show in the Halloween spirit, it is not too scary for the kids,” said Charles Carnes, producer.

“It’ll be a lot of fun,” Carnes added. “It should get the kids in the Halloween mood, and it might just strike a nostalgic cord with the parents.”

The show dates are October 28, 30, Nov. 4, 11, 18 and 25.

The doors open at 11 a.m., a children’s-style meal will be served until 11:45, with the show following at noon. Tickets for the event will be $7.95 and ice-cream will be available. Those interested in reservations should call 274-4686.

“If you would like to treat your child to a spooky Halloween classic,” said Carnes, “come see The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.”
