Second City visits our capital city
October 8, 1995
If you think that a good laugh a day will keep the doctor away, then rush to the Ingersoll Dinner Theater for a night full of laughter. The Second City National Touring Company will be at the theater tonight.
Second City, named for a contemptuous article about Chicago by New Yorker A.J. Liebling, is the oldest comedy ensemble in North America. It was formed Dec. 16, 1959, in Chicago and was an instant and enduring success. It has become a comedy dynasty of sorts, launching the careers of John Candy, Joe Flaherty, Eugene Levy, Rick Moranis, Jim and John Belushi, Gilda Radner and Martin Short, just to name a few.
“When you come to see Second City,” said producer Charles Carnes, “you are seeing the up-and-coming comedians that are going to be the big names of tomorrow.”
With a blend of stand-up, improvisation political humor, Second City performers have entertained audiences all over North America. “This is the third time we have had Second City at the Ingersoll,” Carnes said. “We’re always glad to get them when we can.”
Tickets to the show are $18; desserts and alcoholic beverages will be available. The doors open at 7 p.m., followed by the show at 8 p.m. No dinner will be served. For reservations, please call 274-4686.
“If you like to laugh, come see Second City,” Carnes said, “They’re one-of-a-kind comedians.”
