Increased benefits
October 24, 1995
To the Editor:
As frequent users of the browsing library and the chapel, we are strongly attached to both places. We go there to escape from the busy world of college life, and the demands it places on us. It serves as a place of relaxation and meditation.
However, as students actively involved with several committees on campus, we also feel the need for increased office space, and a plan to consolidate the students in one area. This will create unity and cooperation among students.
The reason we are writing this letter is in search of a solution. We feel the browsing library and chapel should not be eliminated, but rather moved to a location that would better serve the purpose of the two places, relaxation and meditation.
With the new food court coming into the Union, there will be increased traffic. With more student offices in the area, there will be more traffic. If the chapel and browsing library are left in their current location, noise and distractions will destroy the integrity of them.
The last point we would like to make is every time we have been in here, there has never been more than a handful of people at any given time.
And every time we walk past the Veishea office, the Student Activities office or any other student offices along the basement, there are always many more people in those areas than the browsing library or chapel.
We believe this move would benefit far more students, with everyone getting what they want the chapel and browsing library would be in a quieter, more accessible area, and the students who participate in the organizations, and Iowa State, which benefits from these organizations, would have increased accessibility for the offices.
