Greeks Advocating Mature Management of Alcohol (GAMMA) will be sponsoring a dance as part of its efforts to promote responsible social activities on campus.

The “Suitcase Dance” will be held at the State Gym on Friday night, Oct. 27. Couples are invited to come to the dance, which is open to anyone, with their suitcases packed in anticipation of winning the grand prize, a free trip to an unknown location.

The chosen couple will be taken from the dance by a limousine to an airport. The pair will then fly to the undisclosed vacation site for a fun-filled weekend. The rest of the party goers will be able to enjoy themselves at the dance the rest of the night.

“The cost, if any, will be negligible. But what we’re giving away, an exciting trip, is well worth it,” said Frank Sarno, GAMMA president. “I encourage a lot of people to come on out, and have a good time.”

The main goal of GAMMA is to “educate the greek system about responsible drinking habits and to extend those beliefs to the community as a whole,” Sarno said.

Sarno said this is an important time for the organization to show its leadership, due to recent debates about drinking in fraternities.

Each sorority and fraternity has one or two GAMMA representatives who serve as sources of information for their respective houses.

“It is very important that everyone is aware of the effects of alcohol,” Sarno said. “It is a big job for us. But we also try to provide alternatives to people who don’t want to drink, but want to have fun.”
