Ames comic comes home

Ames native and successful comic Brent Aitchison will be putting on a benefit show in Ames tonight.

Aitchison has appeared on the Comedy Channel and was briefly on an episode of “48 Hours.” He has also performed at the Improv and the Comedy Store in Los Angeles.

Aitchison performed a benefit show in Ames last year, doing a solo act. This year he will be joined by friends, Chicago-based comic Sonya White and musician Ray Williams Jr. Both White and Aitchison are impersonators.

“I wanted to do a different kind of show than just a stand-up comedy act,” Aitchison said. “When [Sonya and I] work together, she’ll often do male voices, and I’ll do female. We go where other comedy hasn’t really gone.”

Williams will accompany the two and will also perform some solo work.

The performance is a benefit concert to raise money to buy much needed equipment for the Ames City Auditorium stage. None of the performers will profit from the show. “Theater stuff is not cheap,” Aitchison said. “If I could do a show [in Ames] every year, then maybe we can buy new equipment.”

Tickets are $5, and they are available at the Ames Parks and Recreation Community Center, 515 Clark, or the Administrative Office, 1500 Gateway Hills Park Drive. Tickets may also be purchased by cash or check at the door starting at 6:30 pm this evening. The house opens at 7:30 p.m.

“We’ll give them the best we have,” Aitchison said. “I think people will really enjoy it.”
