Armed man talked into surrendering Sunday

Law enforcement officials talked an armed and presumably distraught rural Ames man into surrendering without incident Sunday night.
The Story County Sheriff’s Office received an incomplete 911 call at about 8:30 p.m. from Carolyn Raymond, who said her husband, Scott Raymond, was distraught over a domestic disturbance and was armed with a handgun in their rural Ames residence.
The Story County Emergency Response Team and Ames police responded.
“No one else was in danger. The family was not in the house. The concern was for Mr. Raymond’s safety,” said Lt. Rhonda Goosic of the Story County Sheriff’s Office.
Officials secured the scene and negotiators contacted Raymond via the telephone. Raymond surrendered to sheriff’s deputies at about 1:40 a.m.
Raymond was taken into custody and transported to Mary Greeley Medical Center. No criminal charges were filed because the situation was considered a medical call, Goosic said.
