Controversial O.J. ad
October 9, 1995
To the Editor:
The Tuesday, October 3rd Daily headline read “O.J. Jurors Reach a Verdict.”
Although the verdict was not to be heard until later in the day, if one turned to the Domino’s ad on the back page one could plainly see what they obviously felt the verdict should be. The ad showed O.J. in an electric chair making a last request for Domino’s Pizza mega-deal with Marcia Clark’s hand on the lever saying he doesn’t deserve it: “Make him eat Home Team.” This ad took my breath away to say the least.
For Domino’s to align themselves with this sensitive issue defies any kind of sense. Not only did they get themselves right in the midst of a race issue, they alienated those against the death penalty as well as those who would be upset by a guilty verdict. To make a light issue of the death penalty in itself, as they did in this ad, is positively sickening. Domino’s ought to stick to delivering pizza. Perhaps Domino’s could explain themselves if one calls the number given in the ad: 292-3030.
